Some hotness for my new iPod

When you get some new electronic hotness, like I did on Sunday when Melissa hooked me up with an eight-gig second-generation iPod Touch for an early birthday present, well, you need a case to carry it around in.

I looked for cases at Target today, and for between $20 and $35 I could buy plastic garbage, pink latex garbage or this goofy black-and-white tartan-looking cloth-covered plastic garbage and encase my smudgey new iPod in it.

No, thanks.

Why spend $35 on some plastic piece of crap when, for $10 more, I could have a Vaja hand-crafted, made-to-order leather case with custom colors that, due to the voodoo magic of them there Internets, I could select myself through a handy Web interface?

Well, I wouldn’t, because that would be stupid.

Tonight, I ordered one of these awesome case for my iPod Touch, in black with a honey-colored stripe. They really are made to order, in Argentina, no less, so it’ll probably be about a month before I see it. But even by the time I paid for FedEx shipping, it was only about $15 more than the “best” of the crap at Target would’ve been after taxes. And it’s significantly more than $15 more awesome.

Can’t wait for it to get here. Now I’ll have to see how long I can avoid buying a Vaja case for my iPad (I’m ordering an iPad through work tomorrow, by the way – I’m stoked)…
