Conversations with a 5-year-old

Helen: “Dad, I want a Butterfinger like you and mama.”
Me: “You just had a large Icee. That was your snack. These are for me and your mom.”
Helen: “I wish I would have gotten a small Icee instead.”
Me: “Why is that? Do you think if you had gotten a small one you would get a Butterfinger, too?”
Helen: “Well, no. It’s just… The cup was really too big.”
